As I mentioned in a previous post, the manifestation of the family unit is something that is perpetually evolving as values and culture change from one generation to the next. Emma Jenner is a British nanny with over twenty years of experience raising children on both sides of the Atlantic. She recently wrote this article on why she believes modern day parenting is in the midst of a crisis. In it she covers five major issues that she believes are contributing to the problem: fear, lowered standards, diminished sense of community, shortcuts, and lacking parental self care. While the article has received a lot of criticism, it has also deservedly gotten a lot of praise. For instance, though she raises many great points, she fails to go into great depth as to why these issues are starting to arise in more recent decades.
